Louis’ Journey: The First Employee through Connect to Work
Connect to Work is an employment support programme in Kent and Medway, delivered by The Education People on behalf of Kent County Council and Medway Council, and funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It helps people facing barriers to work, including those with disabilities, health conditions, disadvantages, or SEND, to find and sustain employment.
At just 19, Louis Turl became the first person in Kent to secure full-time employment through the scheme. He joined Must Have Ideas, a Kent-based homeware brand, in January 2025. With guidance from our Supported Employment Team, Louis developed essential workplace skills, and by July his commitment and enthusiasm earned him a permanent role on the fulfilment team.
Louis was supported throughout by Kate James, Employment Support Officer at The Education People, whose passion lies in helping individuals with disabilities reach their full potential. Her tailored support ensured Louis had the confidence and skills to succeed.

We are proud to have supported Louis on his journey into lasting employment. His achievement marks an important milestone for Connect to Work, and the first of many success stories to come.

Here's what Louis had to say about his employment journey:
The Connect to Work Programme has helped me out massively when it comes to confidence, adjusting to work, and teaching me how to be a valuable member of a team.
