Building a Strong SEF & SIP for the 2025 Ofsted Framework

About this course

The revised Ofsted Framework (November 2025) brings a renewed emphasis on strategic clarity, curriculum ambition, inclusion, safeguarding culture, and the coherence between a school’s self-evaluation and improvement planning. This training is designed for headteachers, senior leaders, and governors who want to write, refine, and develop high-quality SEF (School Self-Evaluation Form) and SIP (School Improvement Plan) documents that align confidently with the updated expectations.

Delivered by George Hawkins, the session focuses on the craft of producing clear, coherent, and strategically aligned documents. While accurate self-evaluation will naturally inform the process, the primary aim is to support schools in creating SEF and SIP documents that articulate a compelling narrative, demonstrate strategic intent, and provide a strong foundation for ongoing improvement.

Delegates will explore what effective SEF and SIP documentation looks like under the revised framework, including how to structure content, use precise evaluative language, and ensure that priorities flow logically into improvement actions.

Key themes include:

  • writing concise, evidence-based evaluative statements
  • embedding inclusion, curriculum coherence, safeguarding culture, and leadership sustainability
  • ensuring strategic priorities translate into measurable, impactful actions
  • presenting a consistent narrative across leadership and governance.

We will be joined by Mark Rivers, a former Kent headteacher and School Improvement Advisor with The Education People, now Director of Education and Deputy CEO in a Multi-Academy Trust, who also serves as a contracted Ofsted inspector. His insight will offer delegates a rare dual perspective on how inspectors interpret SEF/SIP documentation and what distinguishes strong, credible strategic planning.

Although this is a half day event, the room is booked until 4pm for any delegates who may wish to stay and continue working on their SEF/SIP documents with an Improvement Advisor on hand. Please note that lunch will not be provided.

What you'll take away

A central feature of the morning is the opportunity for schools to actively develop their SEF and SIP during the session. Delegates will receive templates, exemplars, and suggested key points aligned to the revised framework.

This is a half-day session, enabling leadership teams to use the afternoon to begin drafting, refining, and populating their documents. Schools will leave with tangible progress and a clear plan to enter the new academic year with aligned, coherent, and inspection-ready documentation,  particularly valuable for those currently in, or approaching, their Ofsted inspection window.
