Designated Safeguarding Lead Refresher (DSLR) Training

What you'll take away

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to: 

• Meet their requirement for updated DSL training every 2 years.

• Refresh their knowledge of national legislation and statutory guidance relating to safeguarding children.

• Share learning and experience with DSLs from different education settings to strengthen safeguarding practice.

• Revisit Kent safeguarding procedures, including strengthening understanding of multi-agency working and the school’s role within it.

• Revisit the importance of developing and maintaining a safer school culture, including identifying and addressing barriers to reporting concerns.

• Explore current and emerging child protection risks and priorities through discussions and case studies. 

Delivery and important information 

The course is delivered by a LADO Education Safeguarding Advisor (qualified and experienced Social Worker) and Safeguarding Support Officer (education safeguarding experienced professional) from the LADO Education Safeguarding Advisory Service (LESAS). Training is discussion-based and uses case studies to support professional reflection, debate and challenge in relation to safeguarding practice, ethics and policy in schools. 

This course is intended for DSLs and Deputy DSLs working in Kent schools or college-based provision who have previously completed initial DSL training and are working with children aged 4-17. Delegates should ensure they are familiar with the current version of Keeping Children Safe in Education and the local KSCMP Support Level Guidance. 

DSLs working in schools or college-based settings outside of Kent or other provisions can access this course, however, will need to undertake independent research to understand their relevant local and/or sector specific guidance and processes to ensure compliance.

Attendance requirements

Full attendance (09:30-16:30) is required to receive a certificate of attendance. A light lunch is provided. 

Certificates of attendance will be withheld where attendance or participation requirements are not met.
