What you'll take away

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand what is meant by safeguarding and child protection, including the categories of abuse.

• Be aware of key legislation, national policies and guidance in relation to safeguarding.

• Identify and respond to abuse, harm and neglect at the earliest opportunity, including the factors, situations and actions that could lead to or contribute to abuse occurring.

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of practitioners and other relevant professionals involved in safeguarding.

• Record and effectively refer concerns or allegations related to safeguarding, in a timely and appropriate way, in line with local Kent procedures.

• Apply safe and professional practice expectations to ensure they work in ways that safeguard children from abuse, harm and neglect.

Delivery and important information

The course is delivered by experienced trainers from the LADO Education Safeguarding Advisory Service (LESAS), and uses interactive discussions and activities to support learning.

The course is suitable as induction safeguarding training for new early years practitioners and as refresher training for existing staff, helping to ensure safeguarding knowledge remains current and effective. It supports settings to meet staff safeguarding training expectations alongside internal induction, supervision, and setting-specific procedures.

This training does not explore individual setting safeguarding procedures; early years providers must ensure staff receive additional training on their specific internal policies and expectations to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Staff working in early years provision outside of Kent may access this training but will need to undertake independent research to understand their own local guidance and procedures to ensure compliance.

Attendance requirements

This is a live, interactive online session running 13:00 – 15:00 and is not recorded. Delegates must:

• Join on time and attend the session in full.

• Have access to a working camera and microphone.

• Participate actively in a suitable learning environment.

Certificates of attendance may be withheld where attendance or participation requirements are not met.
