Teaching in the Moment: Responsive Practice in KS1

Join us for an energising, high-impact day exploring responsive teaching — packed with lively ideas, practical strategies, and ready-to-use approaches that you can take straight back into the classroom to boost learning immediately. 

Aimed at headteachers, teachers and teaching assistants - you’ll explore how to effectively and quickly assess learning as it happens, interpret pupils’ responses accurately, and adapt teaching in the moment to maximise impact for all children.

As well having Isabella Wallace as our keynote speaker for the day, George Hawkins (Senior Improvement Adviser) will also be delivering a session on 'hinge' questions, and looking at what are hinge questions and how to use hinge questions.

You'll leave with:

• a sharper eye for identifying misconceptions early, along with the confidence to use hinge questions effectively
• greater confidence in using formative assessment as part of everyday teaching
• skills to embrace the power of the pivot, making informed adjustments that maximise learning in real time

About our key speaker - Isabella Wallace:

Named “Most Influential Education Speaker 2025” by the UK Enterprise Awards, Isabella is co-author of the best-selling teaching guides, “Pimp Your Lesson!”, “Talk-Less Teaching”, and the award-winning “Best of the Best” Series for Teachers. Focusing on improving learning quality, she delivers a number of extremely popular courses which are known for their high level of audience interaction and their practical, realistic nature.

As a widely experienced trainer and leader, Isabella can relate to educators in all contexts. She is consultant and contributor for the Oxford Dictionary of Education and has worked with British Cycling to develop their coaching programme and with Lord Rowan William’s Inspired Dialogue project to develop human solidarity and compassion in education.

As well as working across Europe, she has trained audiences in South Africa, UAE, India, Brazil, Shanghai, Borneo and the United States. She has published academic research papers on strategies for motivating learners and has worked with educational establishments to set up, manage and monitor Staff Coaching Systems.
