Introduction to Finance for Schools Using FMS6 (3 sessions)

Brief overview

This three day course is aimed at new or inexperienced school based finance staff who need to learn FMS6 and also includes an introduction to the financial regulations and guidance that schools must adhere to. 

The course will enable delegates to gain a good understanding of all aspects of school finance. Delegates will using an FMS6 dummy database and undertake practical exercises during the 3 days.

Delegates are required to:-

Download, print and read various documents pertinent to the course prior to attending Day 1.  A document will be provided to delegates upon allocation of a space.  It is imperative that delegates complete this document, as this will support and enhance their learning experience.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the sessions the delegates will be able to:

  • use the KCC Financial Controls and the Schools’ own Finance Policy as reference documents,
  • contact the appropriate Schools Financial Services team for support,
  • highlight the key aspects of the school funding,
  • explain the processes that need to be carried out in order to provide the school with effective  ongoing financial support to include monthly reporting,
  • play an important role in ensuring that schools are financially well managed.
