About this course

Would you like to use Makaton to enhance and strengthen communication skills in your early years provision? This practical, engaging workshop is designed specifically for Early Years settings that want to build inclusive, calm, and communication rich environments. After attending you will be able to will learn how to sign commonly used phrases such as:

  • “Do you want a drink of milk or water?”
  • “Are you feeling worried?”
  • “Where are the bricks?”
  • “Have you finished drawing?”
  • “Which toy would you like?”

Please note that there is an additional charge of £19.85 per participant for this training as set out below:

Each participant MUST purchase a Makaton Workshop Level 1 manual at £19.85 each. This is a requirement of the Makaton Charity. The manual contains all the signs and symbols learnt on the course, the PowerPoint slides and a wealth of supporting information.

  • For virtual workshops only, there is an additional charge of £10 per person to cover the postage, packing and admin for sending the manual to you. 
  • Delegates that pay by credit card will be contacted by our Finance team, so they can pay for their manual over the phone.
  • Once payment for the manual has been made, the tutor will contact each participant, who will need to supply a home address, or other address, to which the manual is to be sent prior to the training. The cost of postage, packing and admin for the manual is included in the course purchase cost. 
  • In order to attend this training, you will need access to a stable internet connection and a full size laptop, iPad or similar. The training course is not suitable to be delivered or attended on a mobile phone. You will need to see the tutor and other participants clearly, and they will need to see you, from at least the top of the head to waist height.

This hands on workshop introduces the foundations of Makaton, with plenty of opportunities to practise:

  • Key signs and symbols used in daily routines and play.
  • Practical ways to embed signing into everyday interactions.
  • Using signs through stories, songs and group activities.
