Getting Across the Line
Many pupils in Years 5 and 6 struggle to meet age-related expectations in maths due to gaps in foundational knowledge, misconceptions, and lack of confidence.
This course aims to equip educators with practical strategies to identify barriers, deliver targeted interventions, and foster mathematical reasoning and fluency in order to accelerate progress and increase the proportion of pupils meeting age related expectations at the end of Key Stage 2.
Participants will:
Understand the key barriers preventing pupils from reaching age-related expectations.
Explore diagnostic tools for identifying gaps and misconceptions.
Learn how to design and implement effective “keep-up” and “catch-up” interventions.
Develop strategies for adaptive teaching and scaffolding.
Gain confidence in using formative assessment to guide instruction.
Explore ways to build reasoning and problem-solving skills in pupils.
