Supporting Healthy Relationships

Audience: Foster Care
Single session

About this course

Foster Carers of Adolescents / Children

This course equips foster carers (11–18s) with practical skills to support safe and respectful relationships. Through an interactive workshop approach including case studies, reflective tasks and scenarios, foster carers will learn to recognise healthy and unhealthy behaviours, promote consent and boundaries, and respond to concerns with clear safeguarding steps.

Adolescent brain development is a key consideration on the course and the impact this can have on relationships in the adolescence phase. The course will translate the available neuroscience evidence into everyday strategies to de-escalate conflict, teach emotion-regulation, reduce impulsive risk-taking and harness positive peer influence.

What you'll take away

By course end, carers will be better able to support young people's decision-making, confidently make informed safeguarding referrals and strengthen trusting relationships with adolescents.
