Kent County Council has supported out of school and wraparound provisions since 1993. The Education People continue to offer a range of opportunities including out of school quality advisor visits, professional discussion meetings and training. You can now find everything we offer for out of school providers here, along with full access to high quality information, resources and regularly updated features. If you have any feedback on things you would like to see on this page to help develop your provision, please contact us.

Out of school provision provides a well organised safe, supportive, playful environment offering a range of benefits for both children and their families. Providing high quality inclusive out of school care enables flexibility for families to work or attend further education in the knowledge that their children have access to a safe and supportive environment which enhances their all-round development.

In Kent the Early Years and Childcare Service team can support you with business, finance and quality. Our expert Childcare Sufficiency Officers in the Sufficiency and Sustainability team, offer a wide range of support, guidance and training, when setting up an out of school provision and beyond, offering a wide range of support, guidance, training. Offering advice on legal structures and registration when setting up a childcare business to both new and existing out of school providers on a range of business matters including:

  • business planning
  • financial management
  • marketing.

E-Learning is available to support childcare businesses in How to Break Even and Avoid Bad Debt

The Sufficiency and Sustainability and Out of School Quality team have coproduced two comprehensive startup webinars for schools and standalone settings, which we highly recommend watching for those looking to move into the sector.

The Education People have a dedicated webpage for schools advertising for an external provider to operate either a breakfast and/or afterschool club on their behalf. On the webpage prospective providers can find details of what the school requires and their contact details to get in touch.

Wraparound Childcare Programme – Find a Venue

Kent County Council commissions, The Education People Early Years and Childcare Service to deliver a range of support and (where needed) intervention services.

These services include:

  • information, advice and support for newly and/or re-registered provision
  • ongoing support for out of school provisions who have been inspected
  • intervention support where Ofsted has found the out of school Leadership and Governance to be less than its ‘Expected Standard’
  • intervention support where Ofsted has found safeguarding in out of school provision to be ‘Not Met.’

The Early Years and Childcare Quality Out of School team can be commissioned (on a chargeable basis) to support the development of new out of school group provision prior to Ofsted registration or ongoing support outside of scheduled funded support. This support may include:

  • leadership and governance
  • workforce development
  • statutory requirements, including safeguarding and welfare requirements
  • creating a high-quality, inclusive environment.
