The Governance Professional Programme is a CPD‑accredited training course designed for clerks and governance professionals working with maintained schools and academy trusts. The programme equips participants with the knowledge, confidence, and professional skills required to effectively support governing boards and enable strong, compliant governance practice.

Recognising that the clerk is the board’s governance professional, this programme focuses on the strategic and statutory responsibilities of the role, ensuring participants can influence and enable effective governance at board and committee level.

Delivered across three structured sessions, the course builds knowledge progressively, supporting governance professionals to fully understand their duties as the governing board’s paid professional adviser.
